I know Spring is coming because the lovely ladies from Jelliebean Yarns (scrummy hand-dyed yarns) and Elliefants' jewellery & knitwear are back at the Roath Craft Market. They said they'd be back in the Spring and like lovely daffodils they have returned. Hurrah! Ellie & Jennie are such nice women, and make the loveliest yarns, knitwear, jewellery, stuffed toys... gosh, what don't they do?? If you missed them on Saturday (3 March) then shame on you! Don't fear though, they'll be back next month on Saturday, 7 April (and every month thereafter this year). Double Hurrah!! ;-)
More lovelies from the folks at the Roath Craft Market. I swear, each sunny day we get I feel my creative batteries recharging. I love it. And the sun makes everyone's products look so darn good. :-)
We had not only a bumper crop of craftspeople selling their gorgeous stuff at the Craft Market yesterday, but the customers came in droves too! I think the sun helped to bring people out, but also maybe people's wallets are a bit plumper now too that Xmas bills are well and truly over. I hope!
We had a great atmosphere too in the hall. It was just wonderful to see everyone busy and having fun and chatting, and laughing and sharing their passion for craft. Sigh. It doesn't get better than this as an craft market organiser.
Well! My first Roath Craft Market with me at the healm was a real cracker. We had cupcakes (I baked 198 of them!) to give away, and all-weather bunting up and new (bigger!) signs to help people find us. And of course, we had lots of lovely craftspeople selling their gorgeous products. So many talented people, I wish I had a larger venue so we could have more craftspeople at the Market! Still, when the construction at the Mack (Mackintosh Community Centre) is completed we will have a larger venue (accessible to wheelchairs etc upstairs) so we're definitely headed towards bigger and better things.
I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came (vendors and buyers) and especially thanks to all the friends who kindly put up bunting & signs (Nigel, Gill, Sue, Helen) and sorted out their own tables! (Pam & Sue) and finally to my ever suffering partner, Geraint (aka Gedge) who has always supported me in any and every mad scheme I have come up with in the last 17 years we've been together. I don't know how I lucked out with such great friends and family, but I thank you all.
Linda

P.S. At Debbie's request, Chocolate Vegan Cupcake recipe to follow soon.
So I'm the new Roath Craft Market organiser. Phew! How can I live up to my predecessor's sterling work? Liz Dorey and her partner Nick did such a great job bringing the market to life 2 years ago, that I can hardly imagine following her. They worked their tails off making it a warm and inclusive community market that emphasized handmade craftwork but also had room for vintage clothing, knick knacks, and other funky stalls. Wow.
How am I gonna follow that?
Katy (a friend who worked with Liz & Nick) and who very graciously takes a bit of time away from her Ph.D studies in theology (I kid you not) to help publicize the craft market, said to me this morning (and I paraphrase here) - hey, don't worry about having to follow Liz. The worst that can happen is you make a mistake. How bad is that? Make a mistake, learn from it, do better next time. She was more eloquent (being a scholar) but hey, that's my memory of the conversation.
She's right of course. Stop worrying about comparing your apples with Liz' oranges and get on with the market - mistakes and all. Well, I'm great at making mistakes and love to tell the tale too (no shrinking violet, me). So, I guess it is me the craft market was looking for. Let the games begin! :-)
